The world’s best poker players line up for action
The New Year has come with even more experienced poker players in the industry and has already started to prove that it will be a competitive poker playing year. The most highly recognized poker competition that goes on worldwide is the World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournament. No doubt this year’s WSOP will be an interesting one. The main aim of the WSOP is to create a practical atmosphere in playing poker and enable viewers to enjoy the game while stirring up enough publicity to propel the game to greater heights.
The rise of WSOP
The game began a decade ago because of the increase in interest from many people and the rapid increase of poker players in poker rooms. Over the years it has gained a lot of acceptance and positive response from people. More and more poker players have signed up to take a shot at the championship and it is not unheard of for complete unknowns to walk away with the ultimate prize. This, in itself, has jettisoned the popularity of the WSOP as ordinary players from all walks believe they are in with a chance. It became so popular that celebrities are now being pulled into the game. A celebrity who played last year’s WSOP tournament was Matt Damon who unluckily lost all his chips in the early stages. This year’s tournaments promise just as much star-studded action. We’ll be reporting all the latest WSOP developments as they unfold, so watch out for our news bullet-ins.
WPT and other global poker events
Other common global tournaments are the World Poker Tour (WPT) and The Hollywood Poker tournament. The Hollywood Poker tourney commences on the March 20th and goes on until March 24th. The World Poker Tour, however decided not to run for an 8th season this time round in order to give way for an event at the Hollywood Casino in Indiana.
Some other poker tournaments and events taking place this year include the 2010 Bay 101 Shooting Star which will be held at the Bay 1010 Casino between March 8th and March 14th. The 2010 Foxwoods Poker Classic Tournament will be held at Foxwoods Resort Casino between March 12th and March 28th. Two other poker tournaments coming up are the 2010 Pokerstars ANZPT Perth tournament at the Burswood Casino between the dates of March 17-21 and the 2010 GUKPT London Tournament at Victoria Casino between March 18th and March 28th.
